Movies for the Day, Wednesday, April 10, 2019

Today's movies mark the reign of Emperor Maximilian, the birthday of Max von Sydow, and National Siblings Day.

Vera Cruz (1954) is a western about
mercenaries hired by Emperor Maximilian of
Mexico to escort a countess in 1860s Mexico and
a plot to overthrow the Emperor, who was born
July 6, 1832, and reigned from April 10, 1864, to
June 19, 1867.

The Passion of Anna (1969) is a very
good movie about a romance between
a divorced man and a widow.  It stars Max von
Sydow, born April 10, 1929.  It was directed by
Ingmar Bergamn, born July 14, 1918.

Curfew (2012) is about a man at a low point
in his life who gets a call to care for his estranged
sister's child.  This film won an Oscar as Best
Live Action Short Film (19 minutes).  Shawn
Christensen directed, wrote, and starred.  April
10 is National Siblings Day.
