Today's movies mark the birthdays of Marlon Brando, Doris Day, and Jane Goodall.

On the Waterfront (1954) is a classic tale of the
waterfront in New York City, a boxer, corruption,
and labor unions.  This inspiring movie won Oscars for
Best Picture, Best Director (Elia Kazan), Best Actor, to
Marlon Brando, born April 3, 1924, Best Supporting Actress,
to Eva Marie Saint, born July 4, 1924, Original Screenplay,
Cinematography, Art/Set Direction, and Film Editing.  It features
an American Film Institute Great Score, by Leonard Bernstein,
an AFI Great Quote, "You don't understand!  I coulda had class.  I
coulda been a contender.  I could've been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am," and an AFI Hero, Terry Malloy.  This movie is on the National Film Registry.

Randall.
