Movies for the Day, Friday, November 2, 2018

Today's movies mark the birthday of James Dunn, National Adoption Month, and the release of Scared Straight!  Which of today's films would you watch?








A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945) is about
a girl in turn of the century Brooklyn (1900)
who tries to rise above tenement life.  It is based
on the classic Betty Smith novel.  This movie
won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, to James
Dunn, born November 2, 1901.

The Little Kidnappers (1953) is a
family movie about two orphan
children living with relatives
in primitive Nova Scotia around 1900
who "adopt" an "abandoned" baby.
November is National Adoption Month.
Honorary acting Oscars went to Jon Whiteley
and Vincent Winter.

Scared Straight! (1978) is about juveniles
introduced to the downsides of prison life
by inmates.  This was filmed at Rahway State
Prison.  It won an Oscar as Best Documentary,
Feature.  This influential move was released
November 2, 1978.
