Today's movies mark a desert day, an apartheid anniversary, and an Iceland holiday.

The Living Desert (1953) is a nature
documentary about a desert in the United
States.  It is on the National Film Registry and
won an Oscar for Best Feature Documentary.
June 17 is World Day to Combat Desertification
and Drought.

A World Apart (1988) is a story set
in South Africa in 1963 which explores
apartheid.  The last apartheid law was
repealed June 17, 1991.

Cold Fever (1995) is about a man's
quest and trek in Iceland.  Iceland's
Independence Day is June 17 (1944).
