Movies for the Day, Sunday, September 10, 2017

Today, September 10, is the birthday of actor Edmond O'Brien, the birthday of baseball player Roger Maris, and World Suicide Prevention Day.  Today's three movies reflect these dates.



The Barefoot Contessa (1954) is the story of a
Hollywood dirrector who makes a star of a
beautiful Spanish dancer.  Edmond O'Brien, born
September 10, 1915, won an Oscar as Supporting
Actor for his role as the press agent.

61* (2001) tells the story of the race
between Roger Maris and Mickey
Mantle, Yankees teammates, to break
Babe Ruth's home run record.  Roger Maris
succeeded on October 1, 1961, with his
61st and final home run of the season.
Maris was born September 10, 1934.  This
television movie won Emmys for Sound
Editing and Casting.

The Phone Call (2013) tells a story of a woman
who works at a helpline call center and the call
that changes her life.  The film won an Oscar
for Best Live Action Short Film.  Today is
World Suicide Prevention Day.
