Movies for the Day, Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Today is the birthday of actor and singer Maurice Chevalier, the anniversary of the premiere of a 60s television series, and the anniversary of a caveman discovery.  Here are three relevant selections.




Love Me Tonight (1932) has Paris, royalty, an
imposter and romance plus star Maurice Chevalier,
born September 12, 1888.  A great musical, it is
on the National Film Registry.  It boasts an
American Film Institute Song, Isn't It Romantic?

The Monkees (1966 to 1968) is a television
series about a rock band.  It premiered
September 12, 1966.  It won Emmys for
Directing and for Outstanding Comedy
Series.  See especially the episodes Royal
Flush and The Devil and Peter Tork.

Quest for Fire (1981) is about three tribes' search
for fire in a prehistoric world.  Famous paleolitic
cave paintings were found at Lascaux Cave in
France on this date, September 12, in 1940.  Also,
on September 19, 1991, the Ice Man, a prehistoric
man, was discovered in the Otztal Alps in
Europe.  The movie won an Oscar for Makeup.
