Movies for the Day, Friday, March 9, 2018

Today's movies mark the "birthday" of Porky Pig and the birthdays of Eddie Foy Sr. and David Hume Kennerly.






Porky in Wackyland (1938) stars Porky
Pig in a surreal adventure.  This Looney
Tunes is considered one of the greatest cartoons
ever.  Porky Pig was created by Friz Freleng and
first appeared in I Haven't Got a Hat released
March 9, 1935.  This animated short is on
the National Film Registry.

The Seven Little Foys (1955) is a biographical
drama of the life of vaudevillian Eddie Foy Sr.
who took his seven children on the road as a
performing family after the death of his wife.
This movie won an Oscar for Screenplay.  Foy
was born March 9, 1856.

Shooter (1988) is the story of combat photo-
journalists in the Vietnam War.  It is based
on the book Shooter by David Hume
Kennerly, born March 9, 1947.  Kennerly
was a combat photojournalist in the Vietnam
War and was later a White House photographer
for President Ford.  This television movie won an
Emmy for Cinematography.
