Movies for the Day, Thursday, March 15, 2018

Today's movies mark the admission day of Maine, the NCAA Wrestling Championships, and the Syrian Civil War.









From Stump to Ship (1930) is a short
documentary about the logging industry
and associated communities in Maine.
Maine was admitted to the Union on March
15, 1820.  This film is on the National Film
Registry.

Beyond the Mat (1999) is a documentary
that explores professional wrestling.  The
NCAA Wrestling Championships are
from March 15 to 17, 2018.  Of course,
college wrestling and professional wrestling
are worlds apart.

The White Helmets (2016) is a documentary
about the Syrian Civil War and especially the
first responders known as the White Helmets
who risk life and limb to rescue victims from the
rubble of war.  The Syrian Civil War began March
15, 2011.  This film won an Academy Award for
Documentary Short Subject.
