Today's movies mark Law Day, the birthday of Bing Crosby, and World Press Freedom Day.
The Talk of the Town (1942) is about a
fugitive who hides with an unsuspecting
professor and his landlady. This comedy
features a rivalry for the lady's hand as well
as spirited discussion of the law, especially the human
side to all laws. This movies continues our
Law Day series. Law Day was May 1.

Going My Way (1944) is about a young
priest and a gang. This movie won
Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, to
Bing Crosby, born May 3, 1903, Best
Supporting Actor, to Barry Fitzgerald, born
March 10, 1888, Directing, Adapted Screenplay,
Original Screenplay, and Song, Swinging
on a Star, which is also on the American
Film Institute's Song list. This movie is on the
National Film Registry.
Going My Way
Sweet Smell of Success (1957) is about
a press agent and a columnist, neither
very likable, and New York City after dark.
It features an American Film Institute Villain,
J.J. Hunsecker (the columnist). This movie is on the
National Film Registry. Today is United Nations
World Press Freedom Day.
