Today's movies mark the birthday of Catherine the Great, Law Day, and the birthday of Esther Freud.








The Scarlet Empress (1934) is a dramatization
of the life of Russia's Catherine the
Great, born May 2, 1729.

L.A. Law (September 15, 1986 to
May 19, 1994) is an award winning and
very popular series about the work and personal
lives of attorneys and staff at a high-powered
Los Angeles law firm.  This series won many
Emmys, including for Outstanding Dramatic Series
(1987, 1989, 1990, 1991) and Supporting Actor, to
Larry Drake and Jimmy Smits and Richard Dysart.

Hideous Kinky (1998) is about two young
sisters traveling with their hippie mother.
It is about 1970s mores.  It is based on the
autobiographical novel by Esther Freud,
a descendant of Sigmund Freud.  Esther
was born May 2, 1963.  It stars Kate
Winslet, born October 5, 1975.
