Today's movies mark National Teacher's Day, Pet Week, and the founding of the United Kingdom.










Good Morning, Miss Dove (1955) is about a small town
spinster school teacher who is well-respected and takes
ill.  Today is National Teacher's Day.

The Incredible Journey (1963) is about
three pets separated from their owners who
find their way home- two dogs and a cat.
This week is National Pet Week, traditionally
the first full week in May.  This movie was remade in
1993 as Homeward Bound:  The Incredible
Journey, followed by Homeward Bound II:
Lost in San Francisco (1996).

Pillars of the Earth (2010) is an eight-part
television miniseries set in 12th century
England.  This epic of war, religion and power
won an Emmy for Sound Editing.  Based on a
Ken Follett novel, this series had a sequel,
World Without End (2012), which won an Emmy for
Original Dramatic Score.  The United Kingdom was
founded May 1, 1707, and this selection
continues our May England series.
