Today's movies mark the Battle of Midway, the birthday of Larry McMurty, and the birthday of Norman Brinker.
Midway (1976) is a dramatic re-telling
of the turning point battle of Midway island
in the Pacific theater during World War II.
The battle occurred June 3 to June 7, 1942.

Lonesome Dove (1989) is a television
miniseries (4 episodes) based on the novel
by Larry McMurty, born June 3, 1936,
which won a Pulitzer Prize. This western
was nominated for many Emmys and won
for Costume Design, Sound Mixing, Sound
Editing, Makeup, Dramatic Underscore,
Casting and Directing.

restaurant business in the 1950s.
Famous restaurant entrepreneur and
innovator Norman Brinker was born June 3, 1931.
Brinker was famous for chain restaurants, not
really the kind of family restaurant in this
movie, but he is nevertheless worthy of note- check
out his wikipedia page.
