Movies for the Day, Friday, October 12, 2018

Today's movies mark the birthday of Luciano Pavarotti, Spain's National Holiday, and National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.  Which of today's selections would you watch?






Dame Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne and
Luciano Pavarotti in Recital (1981) was nominated
for an Emmy for Outstanding Classical Program; it
is episode 4 of season 6 of the Live from Lincoln
Center series.  Pavarotti, born October 12, 1935,
starred in many episodes and also in Great
Performances on PBS, such as New York Philharmonic with
Zubin Mehta and Luciano Pavarotti (1980), Luciano Pavarotti and
the New York Philharmonic (1983), Pavarotti in Philadelphia: La
Boheme (1983), Duke of Mantua, Rigoletto (1985),  and An Evening
With Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pavarotti (1987).

Flamenco (1995) is a documentary about
the uniquely Spanish music and dance
known as flamenco.  Today, the day Columbus
discovered America in 1492, is a national
holiday in Spain.

Think of Me First As a Person (2006) is a
short documentary/home movie about a
boy with Down Syndrome filmed by his father
from 1960 to 1975.  This film is on the
National Film Registry.  October is National Down
Syndrome Awareness Month.
