in the context of Mau Mau warfare in Kenya.
The Mau Mau uprising was from 1952 to
1960.  The British declared a state of emergency on
October 20, 1952.  The capture of the rebel leader,
Dedan Kimathi, on October 21, 1956, signaled
the ultimate defeat of the Mau Mau.

The Bear (1989) is the story of a bear and
a cub striving to survive.  It is based on
The Grizzly King by James Oliver Curwood.
Today is the birthday of James "Grizzly"
Adams, legendary California mountain man
and trainer of grizzly bears.  He was born
in 1807.
