Movies for the Day, Tuesday, February 12, 2019

Today's moves mark the birthdays of President Lincoln, Lorne Greene, and Charles Van Doren.

Which of today's moves would you watch?

Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940) is a biographical
drama about President Lincoln before his election
as President.  This excellent movie is based on the
Robert Sherwood Pulitzer Prize winning play of the
same title.  It stars Raymond Massey as Lincoln.  Lincoln
was born February 12, 1809.

Bonanza (September 12, 1959 - January 16, 1973)
was a hugely popular western TV series about
rancher Ben Cartwright and his three sons.  Cartwright
was played by Lorne Greene, born February 12, 1915,
and the sons were played by Michael Landon (Little
Joe), Dan Blocker (Hoss), and Pernell Roberts
(originally) (Adam).  It lasted 14 seasons and 430
episodes.  They lived on the Ponderosa.  It was nominated
for many Emmys.

Quiz Show (1994) is a daram about the scandal
surrounding an actual 1950s quiz show and
especially the accusations against Charles Van
Doren, born February 12, 1926, who was a
contestant from January to March 1957.  This
is a very good movie.
