on the great novel McTeague by Frank Norris, born
March 5, 1870, hence its selection as one
of today's movies. It deals with a wife's
obsession with money that drives her husband
mad. It features famous Death Valley
sequences.

Churchill's famous Iron Curtain speech, which can
be considered one of the starting points of the Cold
War. In The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), aliens
come to Earth to warn against nuclear war. The movie
features one of the most famous science fiction
film quotes, "Klaatu barada nikto!" It won a Golden
Globe for Motion Picture Promoting International
Understanding. The movie is listed on the National
Film Registry.

Fail-Safe (1964) is another Cold War movie appropriate for
viewing on the anniversary of Churchill's seminal
Cold War speech in 1946. It depicts the United
States on the brink of nuclear war with the Soviet
Union.
