Today's movies feature Italy in the 1960s, a great Scottish leader, and a television series, Breaking Bad.


This movie stars Anna Magnini, born this day, March 7, in
1908.   Mamma Roma (1962) is the story of a prostitute who
tries to enter the middle class in Italy.

Rob Roy (1995) is the story of RR MacGregor,
baptized March 7, 1671, a leader of a Scottish
clan who plans an uprising against King
George in the 1700s.  A lesser version was filmed
in 1954, Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue.

Breaking Bad is a great television series from AMC.  It aired
from January 20, 2008 to September 29, 2013, 62 episodes
over five seasons.  It was a crime drama, thriller and black
comedy starring Bryan Cranston, born March 7, 1956, hence
its selection for this day.  Cranston played Walter White, a
man who turns to a life of crime and drugs because of cancer
and a need for money.  The series won many Emmy awards,
especially for Cranston as Lead Actor in 2008, 2009, 2010
and 2014.  Other Emmy Awards included Supporting Actor
for Aaron Paul for playing Jesse Pinkman in 2010, 2012, and
2014, Supporting Actress for Anna Gunn for playing Skyler
White in 2013 and 2014, Picture Editing in 2009 for the
episode "ABQ", in 2013 for the episode "Gliding Over All",
and in 2014 for the episode "Felina", Writing in 2014 for the
episode "Ozymandias" and Outstanding Drama Series in
2013 and 2014.
