The French Connection (1971) is about 1970s New
York City police and a French connection drug
pipeline. It is famous for its car chase. This thrilling
movie featured an American Film Institute Hero,
Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle. This movie is on the National
Film Registry and won Oscars for Best Picture, Best
Actor, to Gene Hackman, born January 30, 1930,
Best Director, to William Friedkin, Writing, and Film
Editing. It was followed by French Connection II (1975).
