The Ozark mountains, Italy, and England- locations for today's movies.



The Shepherd of the Hills (1941) is about
Ozark mountain folk and revenge.  The Ozarks
are in the central United States.   The Old Time
Music, Ozark Heritage Festival is from
June 2 to 3, 2017, in Missouri.

The Bicycle Thief (1948) is a classic
Italian movie about family: the father
depends on a bicycle for his work but the
bicycle is stolen.  The movie won
a special Academy Award and a Golden
Globe as Best Foreign Film.  Today is
Republic Day in Italy, a national holiday,
marking the June 2, 1946, date when
Italy was declared a republic.

Tess (1979) is based on the classic English novel
by Thomas Hardy, born June 2, 1840.  It tells
the story of a girl from a poor family who
must deal with "polite society."  The novel is
Tess of the D'Ubervilles.  The movie
won Oscars for Cinematography, Set Decoration,
and Costume Design.
