Movies for the Day, Tuesday, June 6, 2017

D Day, Sweden, and a rural murder are the themes for today's movies.



The Longest Day (1962) tells the story
of D-Day, June 6, 1944, from the Allied
and Axis points of view.  This World War
II movie about the Allied invasion at
Normandy won Oscars for Cinematography
and Special Effects.

The Ox (1991) is a story of mid-1800s
famine in Sweden.  Today is
National Day in Sweden.  The famine
caused Swedish emigration to
America, for which see The Emigrants (1971)
and The New Land (1972).

Brother's Keeper (1992) is a slice of
life documentary about the death
of William J. Ward on June 6,
1990, in rural New York State and
the ensuing murder trial of his brother,
Delbert.  There were four brothers.
