was born this date, June 17, 1943.  Manilow
is a famous singer and songwriter and composer.

Splash (1984) is about a New York
City man who falls in love with a
mermaid.  Today is the 35th annual
mermaid day parade on Coney Island,
New York City.  The parade celebrates
the beginning of the summer season  and is
usually held on the Saturday closest to the
first day of summer, June 21.  The parade began
in 1983.
