The Potemkin, Captain Kangaroo, and Helen Keller- all share this day.




Battleship Potemkin (1925) is one of the most
critically acclaimed movies.  This silent
movie is based on the June 27, 1905, mutiny
aboard the Russian vessel during the 1905
Russian Revolution.

Captain Kangaroo (October 3,
1955 to December 8, 1984) is a classic
daytime children's program series
starring the beloved Captain
Kangaroo, played by Bob Keeshan,
born this date, June 27, in 1927.  It was
nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding
Achievement in Children's Programming
or Outstanding Children's Program from
1960 to 1963 and in 1966.  Keeshan
was nominated for an Emmy in 1969.

The Miracle Worker (1962) is the story
of Annie Sullivan's struggle to teach the
blind and deaf Helen Keller, who later
went on to world wide fame because of
and in spite of her disabilities.  The movie
is from a Broadway play.  This inspiring movie
won Oscars for Best Actress, to Anne Bancroft,
and Best Supporting Actress, to Patty Duke.
Keller was born June 27, 1880, and Sullivan
was born April 14, 1866.  An excellent
television version of the story aired in 1958 as
part of Playhouse 90.
