Movies for the Day, Monday, July 10, 2017

A famous trial, pioneer life, and boxing- today's movies capture all three.



Inherit the Wind (1960) captures the famous
Scopes monkey trial, which occurred July 10 to
21, 1925.  Evolution was really on trial and the
pro and con advocates were Clarence Darrow and
William Jennings Bryan.

Heartland (1979) is a story of pioneer
ranching family life in about 1910
in Wyoming.  Wyoming was admitted
to the Union as a State on July 10,
1890.

Raging Bull (1980) is a great boxing
movie based on the life of Jake LaMotta,
born July 10, 1921.  This thrilling movie
won Oscars for Best Actor- Robert De Niro, and
for Film Editing.  The movie is listed on the
National Film Registry.
