The Scarlet Letter, a romantic comedy, and American views- movies for today, Independence Day.

The Scarlet Letter (1926) is based on the famous
novel of the same name by Nathaniel Hawthorne, who
was born this date, July 4, in 1804.  This silent movie
is about adultery in Puritan New England.  See also The

comedy by Neil Simon, born July 4, 1927.
Richard Dreyfuss won an Oscar as Best
Actor.   It was also a Broadway musical.
