Movies for the Day, Friday, April 6, 2018

Today's movies mark anniversary dates for the Tony Awards, the North Pole, and the Olympics.










42nd Street (1933) is the backstage story of a
Broadway musical. It features an American Film Institute
great quote, "Sawyer, you're going out a youngster, but
you've got to come back a star!"  It also features an
AFI Song, 42nd Street.  This movie is on the National
Film Registry.  The first Tony Awards (Broadway
awards) were on April 6, 1947.

The Flight of the Eagle (1982) is the story
of an ill-fated expedition to discover the
North Pole in a balloon in 1897.  A
successful North Pole discovery mission
occurred April 6, 1909.

The First Olympics:  Athens 1896 (1984)
is a television miniseries (two episodes)
about the first modern Olympics in 1896 and
especially American participation.  The 1896
opening ceremony was on April 6, 1896.  The
series won an Emmy for Music Composition.
