Today's movies mark the birthday of Charlie Chaplin, the Boston Marathon, and a panda anniversary.
The Gold Rush (1925) is a classic Charlie
Chaplin silent comedy about a prospector
in the Klondike. This movie is on the
National Film Registry. Chaplin was born April
16, 1889.

See How She Runs (1978) is a television movie
about a 40-year-old divorced teacher whose life is
changed by her decision to enter the Boston Marathon,
which is held today. Joanne Woodward won an Emmy
as Lead Actress. The movie also won an
Emmy for Music Composition, Dramatic
Underscore. The Marathon is usually held on the
third Monday in April which is also Patriots Day
in Massachusetts.
See How She Runs
The Amazing Panda Adventure (1995) is about a
boy in China who helps his zoologist father rescue
a panda cub from poachers. On April 16, 1972, pandas
Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing arrived at the
National Zoo in Washington, D.C., as a gift from
China after President Nixon's historic trip to China
in 1972.
