Movies for the Day, Monday, April 9, 2018

Today's movies mark the end of the Civil War, National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, and the birthday of Paul Robeson.






The Birth of a Nation (1915) is a landmark film
telling the epic story of two families before, during and
after the Civil War- one Northern and one Southern.
This silent film is on the National Film Registry.  The
Civil War ended April 9, 1865.  The film is
controversial.

The Captive Heart (1946) is about
POWs in Germany during World
War II and a love affair.  Today is
National Former Prisoner of War
Recognition Day.

Paul Robeson:  Tribute to an Artist (1979) is
a portrayal of the multi-talented actor and singer
born April 9, 1898.  This film won an Oscar
for Best Documentary, Short Subject.
