Today's movies mark a New York City anniversary and the birthdays of James Joyce and Ayn Rand.

On the Town (1949) is a musical comedy
about three sailors on leave in New York City.
It is based on a show and won an Oscar for
its Score.  It features an American Film Institute
great song- New York, New York.  New York City
was incorporated as New Amsterdam February 2,
1653.

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
(1979) is about a man questioning life and
faith in turn of the century Dublin.  Author
James Joyce was born February 2, 1882.

The Passion of Ayn Rand (1999) is a dramatic
look at the novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand and her
affair with a handsome protege in plain sight of their
spouses.  It is an above average TV movie.
Rand was born February 2, 1905.  Helen Mirren
won an Emmy as Lead Actress.
