Movies for the Day, Friday, April 7, 2017

Today, April 7, is the birthday of martial arts actor Jackie Chan and of director Francis Ford Coppola. Today is also Rwanda Genocide Remembrance Day. 




Project A (1983) is a classic martial arts film
starring Jackie Chan.  Many consider this movie
his best.  Chan was born this date, April 7, in 1954.
He was awarded an honorary Academy Award
in 2017.  The movie had a sequel, ''Project A, Part II."

Hearts of Darkness:  A Filmmaker's
Apocalypse (1991) is a documentary
about the trials and travails of the filming
of "Apocalypse Now" (1979) by Francis Ford
Coppola, born April 7, 1939.  It won Emmys
for Directing and Picture Editing.
"Apocalypse Now" is a Vietnam War allegorical
epic.

Hotel Rwanda (2004) is set during the
Rwanda Genocide, April 7 to July 15,
1994.  This inspiring movie is about saving
victims by Paul Rusesabagina and stars
Don Cheadle, who was nominated for an
Oscar as Best Actor.  Today is Rwanda
Genocide Remembrance Day.
