Today's movies feature hostages, a unicorn, and rats.
In The Petrified Forest (1936), set in Arizona, an
escaped gangster holds hostages in a roadside diner.
This film noir is based on a play by noted playwright
Robert Sherwood, born this day, April 4, in 1896.
The play was also on Broadway.

There seem to be a number of
candidates for unicorn day and
April 9 has gained some traction. But
I like April 4 because it was declared
as such by Chinese Emperor Kangxi
in 1664. The Last Unicorn (1982) is
an animated fable from Great
Britain.

Today is World Rat Day, a good day to watch Rat
(1998), a National Geographic Explorer documentary
aired on TBS. It is all about rats. It won an Emmy
for Sound Mixing.
