Movies for the Day, Thursday, November 9, 2017

Today's movies mark Veterans Day, the anniversary of a blackout, and the birthday of Carl Sagan.




In Love and War (1958) traces the effects of war,
specifically World War II, on the lives of three
soldiers.  Bradford Dillman won a Golden
Globe for New Star of the Year.  Saturday,
November 11, is Veterans Day.

The Trigger Effect (1996) is about
a never ending blackout in suburbia.
This is a thrilling disaster movie.
Today, November 9, is the anniversary
of the biggest blackout in the
northeast United States in 1965.

Contact (1997) is about a message from
space.  It is based on the book by Carl
Sagan, author and astronomer and science
popularizer, especially extraterrestrial
life.  Sagan was born November 9,
1934.
