Today's movies mark the premiere of Gone With the Wind, the Christmas season, and the birthday of author Betty Smith.





Gone With the Wind (1939) is the classic Civil War
movie.  This passionate and inspiring movie, ranked as one
of the greatest movies ever, won Oscars for Best
Picture, Director, Screenplay, Best Actress, to
Vivien Leigh, Best Supporting Actress, to Hattie
McDaniel, Art Direction, Cinematography, and
Film Editing.  It premiered December 15, 1939.  It is on the National
Film Registry and features several American Film Institute
great quotes:  "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn", "After all, tomorrow is another day!", and "As God is my witness, I'll never
be hungry again."  It is based on the book by Margaret
Mitchell.

Christmas tradition.  This inspiring
and passionate movie features an American
Film Institute Hero, George Bailey, and an
AFI Villain, Mr. Potter.  Directed by the great
Frank Capra.  Christmas is just ten days away.

Brooklyn.  The movie is based on the classic book
by Betty Smith, born December 15, 1896.
