Movies for the Day, Saturday, December 2, 2017

Today's movies mark the birthday of the creator of a three-part series on punk rock, the birthday of Britney Spears, and the National Day of Laos.




The Decline of Western Civilization (1981)
followed by Parts II and III (1988 and 1998)
traces punk rock from the later 1970s through
the metal years to gutter punk.  The series is
largely the creation of Penelope Spheeris, born
December 2, 1945- director, producer, writer.

Britney Spears Live From Las
Vegas (2002)  features the pop
singer on tour.  The film won an
Emmy for Technical Direction.  Spears
was born December 2, 1981.

The Betrayal (Nerakhoon) (2008) is
a documentary about Laotian immigrants
in New York City who fled the United
States secret war in Laos which was part
of the Vietnam War.  This is one episode, which
won an Emmy for Exceptional Merit in
Nonfiction Filmmaking.  December 2 is a
Laotian National Day.
