Movies for the Day, Monday, December 4, 2017

Today's movies mark the birthdays of poet Rainier Maria Rilke, of actress Marisa Tomei, and of actor Jeff Bridges.





Wings of Desire (1987) is about angels pondering
what it would be like to be human.  This movie was
inspired in part by some poems by Rainier
Maria Rilke, born December 4, 1875.  This is a very
good movie.

My Cousin Vinny (1992) is a real fish
out of water tale about an inexperienced
Brooklyn lawyer defending his cousins
on a murder charge in the deep South.
This comedy won an Oscar for Supporting
Actress, to Marisa Tomei, born
December 4, 1964.

The Big Lebowski (1998) is a cult
classic from the Coen brothers (Joel and
Ethan).  This crime comedy film stars
Jeff Bridges, born December 4, 1949.  This
movie is on the National Film Registry.
