Today's movies mark the birthday of actress Jane Wyman, the birthday of tom thumb, and the birthday of Jacob Grimm.





All That Heaven Allows (1955) is about a widow
who allows the gardner to romance her to the
ire of children, friends and her social circle.  This small
town melodrama is on the National Film Registry.
It stars Jane Wyman, born January 4, 1914, and
Rock Hudson.

"tom thumb" (1958) is a musical
fantasy about a tiny man taken in by
a kindly couple but exploited by
villains.  A real Tom Thumb was born
January 4, 1838.  The movie won an
Oscar for Special Effects.

The Wonderful World of the Brothers
Grimm (1962) is the story of the
brothers and the fantasy stories they
left for posterity.  Jacob Grimm was born
January 4, 1785, and Wilhelm Grimm was
born February 24, 1786.  The movie won
an Oscar for Costume Design.
