Movies for the Day, Tuesday, January 9, 2018

Today's movies mark the birthdays of cartoonist Chic Young, President Nixon, and actor J.K. Simmons.






Blondie (1938) is about Dagwood Bumstead and
family, including wife Blondie.  The movie
is based on the popular and very long-running
comic strip by Chic Young.  Young was born
January 9, 1901.

All the President's Men (1976) is a great
film about journalists Woodward and Bernstein
as they uncover the Watergate scandal that
leads to President's Nixon's resignation.  Nixon
was born January 9, 1913.  This thrilling and inspiring
movie won Oscars for Supporting Actor, to
Jason Robards, Writing, Art/Set Decoration and
Sound.  The movie gave us two American Film
Institute Heroes:  Bob Woodward and Carl
Bernstein.  The movie is on the National Film
Registry.

Whiplash (2014) is about a jazz teacher, played
by J.K. Simmons, who was born January 9,
1955.  The movie won Oscars for Supporting
Actor, to Simmons, Sound Mixing, and Film
Editing.
