Movies for the Day, Tuesday, January 2, 2018

Today's movies mark Georgia's ratification of the Constitution, the birthday of actor Cuba Gooding Jr., and the birthday of author Isaac Asimov.

God's Little Acre (1958) is about a Georgia
family and is based on the best-selling novel
by Erskine Caldwell.  Georgia ratified the
Constitution on January 2, 1788.

Jerry Maguire (1996) is about a
sports agent in crisis.  This passionate
movie, which includes romance, won
an Oscar for Supporting Actor, to
Cuba Gooding Jr., born January 2,
1968.  It features two American Film
Institute Quotes:  "Show me the money!" and
"You had me at 'hello'."

The Bicentennial Man (1999) is about
an android struggling with emotions.
It is based on a story by Issac Asimov, prolific
author, especially of science fiction and robots.
His three laws of robotics are iconic in
science fiction and in the world of artificial
intelligence.  Asimov was born January 2, 1920.  In
his honor, I will feature robot movies on January 12 and
22.
