Movies for the Day, Friday, February 2, 2018

Today's movies mark Black History Month, the birthday of author James Joyce, and Groundhog Day.

The Blood of Jesus (1941) pits good vs. evil
and is intended to promote the Black
Southern Baptist ideal of a virtuous rural
life.  This movie is on the National Film
Registry.  February is Black History Month
and I am listing a movie for Black
History Month from February 1 through 7.

Passages From James Joyce's
Finnegans Wake (1966) is an
attempt to film one of Joyce's
masterpieces of literature.  Joyce, born
February 2, 1887, is pictured circa
1918.  It is an Irish tale.

Groundhog Day (1993) is about a weatherman
reliving inexplicably Groundhog Day over and
over.  Today is Groundhog Day.  This comedy
fantasy is on the National Film Registry.
