Movies for the Day, Sunday, February 11, 2018

Today's movies mark Foundation Day in Japan, Inventors' Day, and Valentine's Day.








Sansho the Bailiff (1954) is a family drama
set in 11th century Japan.  It is an excellent
movie.  Today is National Foundation Day in
Japan, dating to the year 660.

The Absent Minded Professor (1961) is a
Disney comedy about a professor who invents
an anti-gravity substance called Flubber.  Today
is Inventor's Day and the birthday of the great
inventor Thomas Edison, born February 11,
1847.  The movie stars Fred MacMurray, born
August 30, 1908.

Paperman (2012) is about an office worker
romance abetted by paper airplanes.  This love
story won an Oscar for animated short (about
six and a half minutes).  Valentine's Day is just
three days away on February 14.
