Movies for the Day, Wednesday, February 7, 2018

Today's movies mark the birthday of Sir Thomas More, the birthday of author Charles Dickens, and Black History Month.







A Man for All Seasons
(1966) is the story
of Sir Thomas More and his ill-fated battle
with King Henry VIII.  This movie won Oscars
for Best Picture, Actor, to Paul Scofield, Directing,
Writing, Cinematography, and Costume Design.  A
television version aired in 1988.

Oliver! (1968) is about an orphan and
pickpockets he hangs with.  It is based
on the novel by Charles Dickens, Oliver
Twist, and the stage musical.  This movie
won Oscars for Best Picture, Directing,
Art/Set Decoration, Sound, Score, and
Choreography.  Many versions have been
released as Oliver Twist (1922: silent; 1933,
1948, and 1982:  TV movie) and as Oliver
& Company (1988) with an animated
kitten and dog gang.

Sounder (1972) is an inspiring movie
about a black sharecropper family in
the 1930s.  February is Black History Month
This is 7th of my week of African American
themed movies.
