Movies for the Day, Monday, February 5, 2018

Today's movies mark the birthday of actor Red Buttons, Black History Month, and the birthday of actress Laura Linney.






Sayonara (1957) is a James Michener
tale about a Korean War pilot and romance.  The
movie won Oscars for Supporting Actor, to
Red Buttons, Supporting Actress, to Miyoshi
Umeki, Art/Set Decoration, and Sound.  Buttons
was born February 5, 1919; Michener was born
February 3, 1907.  The Korean War began
June 25, 1950.

Soul Food (1997) is about a
black family in Chicago and
family values.  February is Black
History Month and I am featuring
African American themed movies
for February 1 to 7.

Wild Iris (2001) is about a family and
suicide, depression, and alcohol abuse.
This Showtime movie won an Emmy
for Lead Actress, to Laura Linney, who
was born February 5, 1964.
