Movies for the Day, Sunday, September 2, 2018

Today's movies mark the beginning of World War II, Vietnam independence, and the birthday of Donald Margulies.  Which movie would you watch?







Das Boot (1981) is the story of a
German U Boat submarine in World
War II.  The American version is called
The Boat.  This is a well-regarded movie.
World War II started September 1, 1939,
with Germany's invasion of Poland.

The Scent of Green Papaya (1993)
is about a Vietnamese girl growing
up in Saigon in about 1951, just six
years after Vietnam gained its
independence from France on
September 2, 1945.

Dinner With Friends (2001) is a TV
movie about suburban life.  It is
based on the Pulitzer Prize winning
play by Donald Margulies, who was
born September 2, 1954.
