Movies for the Day, Sunday, September 9, 2018

Today's movies mark the birthday of James Hilton, California's admission day, and National Grandparents Day.  Which of today's movies would you watch?







Lost Horizon (1937) is based on
the classic story by James Hilton about
Shangri-La, a mythical paradise in Tibet.
This great movie won Oscars for Interior
Decoration and for Film Editing.  Hilton
was born September 9, 1900.  It was remade in
1973 under the same name.

Petulia (1968) is a well-regarded movie
about the relationship between a recently
divorced doctor and a socialite.  It takes
place in San Francisco in the mid 1960s.
California was admitted to the Union on
September 9, 1850.

Big Mama (2000) is about an elderly
grandmother fighting to retain custody
of her grandson.  This film won an
Oscar as Best Documentary, Short Subject.
Today is National Grandparents Day.
