Movies for the Day, Friday, August 18, 2017

Two of today's movies focus on director Roman Polanski while the third is about a Catskills resort.




Knife in the Water (1962) is an early and
excellent Roman Polanski movie about a sailing
couple and a student hitchhiker.  This is a tension-filled
must-see film.  Polanski was born August 18, 1933.

Dirty Dancing (1987) is about passion
and dancing in the 1960s at a Catskill
Mountains resort.  It stars Patrick Swayze, born
August 18, 1952.  It won an Oscar for
Original Song, (I've Had) The Time of My
Life, which is also on the American Film
Institute Songs list.  It also features an AFI
Quote, "Nobody puts Baby in a corner."




Dirty Dancing








Roman Polanski:  Wanted and Desired (2008)
is a documentary about the public scandal and
private tragedy that drove the legendary filmmaker
to flee the United States.  This HBO film won
Emmys for Directing and Writing.  There is a sequel,
Roman Polanski:  Odd Man Out.
