Two movies about Czechoslovakia and a horror thriller- subjects for today's films.





Czechoslovakia 1968 (1969) is a short
documentary about the failed uprising in that
country in 1968, the Prague Spring.  It was met
with a Warsaw Pact invasion on August 20,
1968.  The documentary won an Oscar for
Documentary Short Subject and is on the
National Film Registry.

Re-Animator (1985) is horror thriller
and a black comedy about a medical
student who has a serum to bring the dead
to life.  This zombie movie is based on
a character, Herbert West, created by H.P. Lovecraft,
born August 20, 1890.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) is about
a Czech doctor in the 1960s and his affairs with
women and the political turmoil of the times.  This
passionate movie is set in 1968, which, as noted above,
saw the Prague Spring in Czechoslovakia and the
Warsaw Pact invasion on August 20, 1968.
