Today's films are about Bora Bora, Snow White, and Nagasaki.





Tabu- A Story of the South Seas (1931) is an
ethnographic documentary and narrative
about pearl fisherman and romance on a
South Pacific island.  It won an Oscar for
Cinematography and is
on the National Film Registry.  Today is
International Day of the World's Indigenous
Peoples.

Snow White (1933) is the Betty
Boop version of the Snow White
story.  This great animated short is
on the National Film Registry.  Betty
Boop made her first appearance in
Dizzy Dishes, released August 9,
1930.

Rhapsody in August (1991) is a remembrance
of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, Japan, by
the United States in World War II on this date,
August 9, 1945.  A Japanese grandmother especially
remembers.
