Today's selections feature a burlesque queen, Archie Bunker, and the Gulf War.





Applause (1929) is a revolutionary early
talkie about a burlesque star, a two-timing
boyfriend, and an innocent young daughter
just out of a convent.  The movie is on the
National Film Registry and stars Helen
Morgan, born August 2, 1900.

All in the Family (January 12, 1971 to April
8, 1979) is one of the most acclaimed sitcoms
ever.  It stars Carroll O'Connor, born August
2, 1924, as Archie Bunker.  During its nine
seasons and 210 episodes, it won many Emmy
awards.  Some noteworthy episodes include
Gloria's Pregnancy, Sammy's Visit, Edith's
Problem, The Elevator Story, The Bunkers and the 
Swingers, Edith's 50th Birthday, Cousin Liz, and
California, Here We Are.  Archie is a lovable
bigot and the series tackled many controversial
issues.

Three Kings (1999) is the story of a gold
heist at the end of the Persian Gulf War, aka
Operation Desert Storm, which began
August 2, 1990, and ended February 28,
1991.
