Movies for the Day, Friday, August 10, 2018

Today's movies mark Indigenous Peoples Day, the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, and Curt Siodmak's birthday.









In the Land of the Head Hunters (1914)
chronicles the culture of Native Americans
in British Columbia circa 1911.  Aka In the
Land of the War Canoes, this movie is on
the National Film Registry.  Yesterday, August
9, was International Day of the World's
Indigenous People.

Hearts and Minds (1974) is a
documentary about the Vietnam War,
especially critical of the United States
military's effort to win the hearts and
minds of the Vietnamese people.  The
Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, passed by
Congress August 7, 1964, authorized
United States military involvement in
Vietnam.  This movie won an Oscar as Best
Feature Documentary.

The Wolfman (2010) is a remake of
the 1941 movie, The Wolf Man, which
starred Lon Chaney as the werewolf and
was based on a horror story by Curt
Siodmak, born August 10, 1902.
