Today's movies mark the birthday of Gene Kelly, Twins Day, and the birthday of Leon Uris.








An American in Paris (1951) is a great
and passionate musical about an American, a
painter, in post World War II Paris.   This movie stars
Gene Kelly, born August 3, 1912.  This movie won
Oscars for Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Score,
Cinematography, Costume Design, and Set
Decoration.  It features an American Film Institute Song,
I Got Rhythm.  This movie is on the National Film
Registry.


An American in Paris








The Sheep Has Five Legs (1954) is
a French comedy about reuniting
quintuplets.  This movie was nominated
for an Oscar for Best Writing.  Today
through August 5 is the Twins Day celebration.

QB VII (1974) is a two-episode miniseries
about a trial after World War II but having
Holocaust themes.  It is based on the novel by
Leon Uris, born August 3, 1924.  This miniseries
won Emmys for Supporting Actor, to Anthony
Quayle, Supporting Actress, to Juliet Mills, Film
Editing, Film Sound Editing, Music Composition,
and Graphic Design.
