Movies for the Day, Monday, August 13, 2018

Today's movies mark an atom bomb anniversary and the birthdays of Annie Oakley and Alfred Hitchcock.











The House on 92nd Street (1945) is about
FBI counter-espionage of Nazi agents in New York
City seeking atomic bomb formula.  This movie won
an Oscar for Original Screenplay.  The Manhattan
Project, which developed the atomic bomb, was
officially named as such August 13, 1942.

Annie Get Your Gun (1950) is about
Western star and sharpshooter Annie
Oakley, born August 13, 1860.  It is based
on a Broadway musical and won an
Oscar for Score.  This romantic movie
was also made in 1935 as Annie Oakley.

Strangers on a Train (1951) is an
Alfred Hitchcock thriller about
"exchange murders" by a psychopath
and a tennis star.  The famous director
was born August 13, 1899, and this is the first
of several movies we will be featuring by
Hitchcock.
